Green Your Halloween Costume - Group Green Halloween Says Swapping Costumes Helps Environment, Reduces Waste

For Halloween this year, your child doesn't have to dress up as Captain Planet to help the environment.

According to the group Green Halloween, if half the kids in the U.S. who celebrate Halloween swapped costumes, rather than buying new ones, the nation's annual landfill waste would be reduced by 6,250 tons. That's about the weight of 2,500 mid-size cars.

To help achieve those impressive numbers, Kiwi Magazine teamed up with Green Halloween and Swap.com to organize the First Annual National Costume Swap on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The swaps are organized at various swap meets around the country where people bring in gently worn costumes, Sarah Smith from Kiwi Magazine said on "Good Morning America" today.

If there's no swapping site close to you, Smith said kids can go online at thredUP.com. There you can learn how to swap costumes with kids across the country for only $5 plus shipping. ( abcnews.go.com )
