First death recorded in US by vampire bat's bite - The first person to die as a result of a vampire bat's bite in the United States is a 19-year-old Mexican migrant worker. US officials did not identify the man but they explained that the man was bitten in his native Michoacan home.

The British newspaper Daily Mail reports that the man was rushed to the hospital after he started showing symptoms of rabies. When the hospital officials carried out a test on him, they found that he had a deadly form of the disease which is linked to vampire bats.

 

 

Vampire bats are dreaded mostly due to their portrayal in movies and television shows. Contrary to the perception created by the entertainment world, bats rarely take the lives of people. They are however known to be carriers of rabies which makes them potentially deadly.

The man was in hospital for two weeks during which his condition deteriorated. He was placed on life support but the doctors advised his family that it would be better to turn the machine off.
